The Corvette legend was born with the first 300 hand built examples assembled in Flint Michigan in 1953. Since that year, Chevrolet has assembled Corvettes continuously and they have celebrated many milestones along the way with special anniversary models. The first example was the 1978 Silver Anniversary model, then the all white 1988 35th Anniversary model, and onto the 1993 40th Anniversary model. Chevrolet wanted to produce a truly special model to celebrate the Corvette's 50th anniversary, and so was born the 50th Anniversary Edition coupe you see here. This was not merely an emblem and paint package for 2003, but a complete appearance, interior, and mechanical upgrade. On the exterior, the 50th models got a unique paint color exclusive for the 50th package known as "50th Anniversary Red". This beautiful deep metallic red is offset with champagne gold emblems and gold painted five spoke aluminum wheels. On the inside, the 50th models received an exclusive "shale" interior with leather wrapped door pools and door panel armrests. All the power equipment is here, including power windows, locks, mirrors, sport seats with adjustable lumbar and side bolsters, two person memory for seats, radio, and mirrors, heads up display, driver information center, two person automatic climate control, and BOSE premium AM/FM/CD stereo. Under the hood is GM's amazingly popular LS1 V8 producing 350HP. The transmission is a four speed electronically controlled automatic mounted in the rear for 50/50 front and rear weight balance. This model also represented GM's first production use of Magnetorheoligical shock absorbers, an option still available on the new C8 Corvettes today and was such a revolution that GM licensed the technology to Ferrari for use in its sports cars. These special shock absorbers use iron filings suspended in a viscous fluid surrounding a copper winding with a variable voltage signal that can cause the iron filings to thicken for a stiffer ride or thin for softer ride based on road and driving conditions. These changes happen in milliseconds, and give this 50th Anniversary Corvette a boulevard ride when you want it and race car handling when you need it. This option combined with the "Active Handling" package mean this is a sports car that keeps you in control no matter what the situation. The 50th Anniversary coupe you see photographed here is a beautiful and well cared for example of the breed. With just over 16,000 miles on the odometer, this gorgeous Corvette is in as new condition. The previous owner has added a few custom touches such as the air brushed 50th logo under the hood, carbon fiber trim and fuel rail covers under the hood, chrome C7 ZR1 wheels(factory wheels are included with the car) wrapped in super sticky Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires, and an Ipod hookup hidden in the ashtray that plays through the OE stereo. Included with purchase are the factory window sticker, factory build sheet, sales brochure, factory fuel rail covers, painted front license plate bracket, painted rear license plate bracket, car cover, and front end and mirror bras.
