Celebrating Corvette's overall back-to-back class wins at the 2002/2003 24 hours of LeMans, Chevrolet produced a special edition Corvette Z06 for 2004 known as the "24 hours of LeMans Commemorative Edition". This special edition Corvette was painted in the same hue of LeMans Blue as the C5R race car and featured matching silver stripes with red accents. The emblems front and rear were modified to show the two GTS class wins at LeMans. The wheels were polished aluminum to add some visual excitement and wrapped in Goodyear Eagle F1 supercar tires. Not just a stripe package, this special Z06 featured a carbon fiber hood that weighed just 20 pounds, some 10 pounds less than the standard fiberglass reinforced unit. This was the first use of carbon fiber for a major body panel on a mass produced automobile, another Corvette first. Inside is a black leather interior with all the power accessories you would expect. Power windows, locks, mirrors and seats with two person memory are all here. Now add to that a driver information center that can display fuel mileage and digital guage readouts along with tire pressures, and a snazzy fighter jet based heads up display to keep you informed without ever taking your eyes off the road. This is one driver oriented vehicle, but not to say the passenger is forgotten. There is dual zone automatic climate controls and a premium Delco BOSE stereo to keep your passenger comfortable and relaxed, even while you roast the tires off or pull 1g in cornering!! Under the hood of this blue streak is where the magic happens, and that comes in the form of GM's legendary LS6 V-8. Producing 405 horsepower and 400 ft. lbs. of tire smoking torque from only 346 cubic inches, this powerhouse far exceeds the vaunted 1-to-1 horsepower to cubic inch ratio without any form of forced induction or variable valve timing. This all aluminum pushrod V-8 loves to pull all the way to redline, and never runs out of breath. All this power is routed through a 6 speed manual transmission because real race cars have manuals, and nothing feels as good as a beautifully weighted clutch pedal and a rifle bolt smooth shifter in the palm of your hand. Brakes are monster discs at all four wheels and suspension is independent with transverse leaf springs front and rear. The exhaust noise is lustful, and makes the Delco Bose sound system completely unnecessary! This beautiful one owner 6,000 original mile example is as close to new as you're going to come. Having been garage kept and lovingly cared for by it's collector owner, this beauty needs absolutely nothing!! This is the 1967 427ci coupe of the modern era, the ultimate edition of the ultimate C5 Corvette.
