 Arguably one of the most successful special edition Mustang's in Ford's history, the "Mach 1" name has been utilized on all but two of the six generation's of Mustang to date. The Mach 1 burst on to the muscle car scene in 1969 as a high performance offering slotting in above the now ubiquitous "GT" model. The first generation Mach 1 was wildly popular, so much so that Ford cancelled the GT after 1969, consigning that model to the history books until it was resurrected on the third gen Foxbody platform in 1982. The redesigned 1971 Mach 1 was an option package only on the fastback, or "SportsRoof" as Ford called it, Mustang(Body Code 63R) and added visual excitement to match it's performance credentials. The Mach 1 definitely looked like it should be capable of achieving Mach 1 speeds, and to say the styling was attention grabbing is an understatement. Under the hood of the Mach 1 for 72' you had a choice of a standard 302CI Windsor V-8 or a trio of 351CI Cleveland V-8s, starting with a H-Code 2v, then a Q-code 4v, or the top dog R-code 351 H.O. These engines ranged in net horsepower from 140hp for the standard 302CI V-8 engine up to 275hp for the 351CI H.O. Power was transferred back to a standard Ford 9" rear axle through your choice of either a 3-speed automatic transmission or three and four speed manual transmissions. Standard competition suspension featuring HD springs and shocks combined with optional quick ratio power steering to make the Mach 1 a very athletic and well mannered muscle car. 
 The striking 1972 Mach 1 you see pictured here is the product of a three year restoration and is showing only 64,928 believed to be original miles. The exterior is finished in Dark Green(code 4Q) with Argent accent paint and decals. Period correct reproduction white letter Goodyear Polyglas GT tires wrap around factory optional Magnum 500 wheels completing that perfect muscle car look. Under the hood of this muscle Mustang is a 351C V-8 that has been upgraded from it's original two barrel carburetor to a factory correct 4-barrel Autolite 4300D carburetor on a factory Cobra Jet intake manifold. This is the only deviation from stock and helps to give this Mach 1 a little more punch to match it's looks. The transmission is a Ford 3-speed FMX "SelectShift" automatic and hands over power to a stock 2.75 geared open rear differential. The optional power front disc brakes and power steering make this an easy to live with everyday driver. Speaking of easy to live with, the interior of this classic pony car is perhaps one of the nicest in its period. This sweetheart has deluxe wood grain trim, remote drivers mirror, Mach 1 Sports interior with high back bucket seats, Sports Deck rear seat, center console, Rim-Blow horn, AM/FM stereo radio, analog clock, Convenience Group, and that most precious muscle car option, SelectAir Air Conditioning from the factory. If this Mach 1 had anymore equipment they would have had to put a Lincoln badge on it! 
 This Mach 1 is strikingly original with a matching numbers engine, original sheet metal and floors, original space saver spare with jack, and has been a feature car in Mustang Monthly Magazine.
