The model year 2007 was the first for Ford's new rebirth of collaboration with the legendary Carroll Shelby, and they didn't just dip their toes in the water, they went all in to produce a modern day monster muscle car. Out went the standard Mustang GT's 4.6L SOHC V8 and in its place went a thumping 5.4L supercharged V8 making a thunderous 500 horsepower and 480 lb. ft. of torque. This engine featured cylinder heads borrowed from the Ford GT supercar and the supercharger was tuned to produce 8.5 psi of heavenly boost pressure. As this is a proper muscle car, the only transmission available was a heavy duty proper stick and clutch six speed manual, as the good lord and Carroll intended. When and "if" you can get this awesome combination to hook up on the street, you can be prepared for a run to 60mph in just 4.5 seconds and through the quarter mile in 12.9 seconds at a slightly felonious 112mph. The glorious sound of all American power emanating from the dual exhaust pipes is only overcome by the incredible sound of the supercharger whine at high RPM. When you have this much power at your disposal, you need to be able to scrub some speed quickly when you happen upon Johnnie law man and this Shelby is more than up to that task also. Big Brembo power disc brakes measuring 14" in front and 13" in rear work together to halt this stallion from 60mph in as little as 121 feet and remain fade free stop after stop. Not leaving any stone unturned, Ford also saw to it that the GT500 received upgraded stabilizer bars, springs, and shock absorbers. The rear panhard bar set up was straight from the Ford FR500C race car and helps keep the rear end planted well under the assault of all those horses. To make this pony stand out from lesser thoroughbreds, the GT500 received more aggressive but not over cooked styling cues. In the front, the Shelby shows off a deeper fascia with blacked-out grilles and a functional air splitter. While the pumped up hood features traditional Lemans stripes and has functional heat extractors near the leading edge. The tail stands tall with a vintage-style ducktail spoiler, and there are Shelby and Cobra badges galore including one that looks like the original’s cars gas cap. Inside is aggressive looking, but functionally a wonderful place to spend some quality time. The red and black leather interior matches well to the exterior and provides a reminder that this is not your neighbors lowly GT. The cockpit is all business with clearly legible and easy to read at a glance instrumentation, leather wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, power everything, and a bad boy Shaker sound system with in dash 6 disc CD changer for those special moments that demand a little Motley Crue at 95 decibels. Just imagine the smile on your face as you roast off the rear tires to "Kickstart My Heart", that's some quality road therapy right there! This Shelby GT500 is completely original and unmolested. It has been cared for extremely well and enjoyed on a low mileage basis. Always garage kept, it looks and performs as new. The Shelby models are a blue chip collectible and are sure to produce a return on investment in the future. Better to get in now before this car has a one in front of the current price.
